Edible events and jellied architecture, with stylish British eccentricity

LONDON

Bompas & Parr, the founders of the London studio of the same name, could be described as artists, cooks, architects, designers, photographers, art directors and curators… so many things, that they often prefer to describe themselves simply as accountants! Their brand specialities are jellies, which they create in the most extravagant shapes and colours. More generally, the pair conceive mind-boggling attention-catching events connected (almost always) with the world of food design and convivial rituals. Among their most spectacular performance installations have been their transformation of the roof of Selfridges department store into a navigable lake (The Truvia Voyage of Discovery) and the flooding of a whole floor of a building with 4 tons of punch, in collaboration with the well-known engineering studio Arup (The Architectural Punchbowl).

 

Bompas & Parr, fondatori dell’omonimo studio londinese, sono potenzialmente artisti, cuochi, architetti, designer, fotografi, art director e curatori… tanto che per tagliar corto spesso si definiscono ragionieri! Il loro marchio di fabbrica sono le gelatine, che producono in innumerevoli forme e colorazioni. Più in generale, il duo inglese, progetta eventi di incredibile impatto emotivo connessi (quasi sempre) al mondo del food design e ai rituali di convivialità. Tra le loro performance più spettacolari la trasformazione del tetto di Selfridges in un lago navigabile (Truvia voyage of discovery) e l’inondazione di un edificio con 4 tonnellate di punch in collaborazione con il noto studio ingegneristico Arup (Architectural punchbowl).
