Fashion and music, RIHANNA POSES FOR BALMAIN
“The future of fashion is when music becomes fashion and fashion music”, says Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain fashion house. Perhaps this explains why the French brand decided to dedicate its Spring/Summer 2014 collection to music star Rihanna, the super testimonial immortalized by the German photographic duo Inez and Vinoodh within an ambience of geometric optical spaces. The star, having performed as a designer for River Island in 2013, continues to notch up eclectic collaborations with the world of fashion, the most recent being in the role of reality show producer for the US TV program Styled to Rock, which gives its cast of competitors the task of creating the perfect outfit for different famous music stars. What connects Rihanna’s persona so strongly with fashion? Olivier Rousteing has this answer: “She has the gift not only of creating songs the public adores, but also of launching new fashion trends – knowing what the next must-have is going to be and making it hers. In my view, that’s what makes someone a fashion icon.”

La star, già designer nel corso del 2013 per River Island, continua a collezionare eclettiche collaborazioni con il mondo della moda: l’ultima in veste di producer per un reality show statunitense intitolato Styled to Rock, che invita i concorrenti a creare l’outfit perfetto per musicisti famosi. Cosa rende il suo personaggio così inestricabilmente connesso alla moda? Olivier Rousteing risponde così: “Lei ha il dono non solo di realizzare canzoni che il pubblico ama, ma sa anche come far nascere nuove mode – scoprendo cosa sarà la prossima cosa da avere e facendola sua. Per me, è questo ciò che ti rende un’icona del fashion.”
