While Italy continues to celebrate the success of Paolo Sorrentino’s film The Great Beauty, the Bulgari jewellery maison launches a collection entirely inspired by Rome’s Dolce Vita period of the 1950s and 60s. Diva – this is the collection’s title – is a tribute to all the grand stars which during those years chose masterpieces crafted by the Roman master-jeweller to adorn their own beauty on and off the film-set, like Audrey Hepburn, Ingrid Bergman and Gina Lollobrigida. The twenty-eight pieces proposed by Bulgari are characterized by their unusual colouring, which mix hues that evoke springtime, and their use of brilliant cabochon cuts, as well as by the extreme flexibility which allows them to adapt perfectly to the bodies of all those lucky enough to wear them.

London’s Victoria and Albert Museum is celebrating Italy’s fashion industry with an exhibition called The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945 – 2014. Running from 5 April to the end of July, the event aims to illustrate the technical and creative skills that have made Italian Fashion famous the world over. Its narrative structure is articulated in five exhibition sections, starting with the immediate post-war years and finishing with today’s emerging talents. The spectator is introduced to the ensembles of the first Made in Italy pioneers, such as the Fontana Sisters and Simonetta, and then moves on to the glamorous labels (from Dolce e Gabbana to Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Missoni, Prada, Valentino and Versace, to name just a few). To conclude the exhibition, curator Sonnet Stanhill has bravely chosen to focus on today’s young trends and talents. The event is sponsored by Bulgari, and its special sense is above all to pay homage not only to the big names of the fashion industry but also to Italy’s system of industrial districts and the extraordinary skills of countless Italian craftsmen and craftswomen.

L’esposizione, che aprirà i battenti il 5 aprile per concludersi alla fine di luglio, intende dare testimonianza delle eccellenze che hanno reso l’industria della moda italiana famosa in tutto il mondo. La narrazione, scandita in cinque sezioni espositive, attraversa un arco temporale che va dal primo dopoguerra ai nostri giorni: introducono gli ensembles dei primi pionieri del Made in Italy, come le Sorelle Fontana e Simonetta, per poi proseguire con le principali griffe del Paese (da Dolce e Gabbana a Giorgio Armani, passando per Gucci, Missoni, Prada, Valentino e Versace, solo per citarne alcuni); a conclusione del percorso di visita, il curatore Sonnet Stanfill ha scelto di fotografare la contemporaneità posando uno sguardo curioso su alcuni dei talenti emergenti della moda italiana. La mostra, sponsorizzata da Bulgari, è un omaggio ai grandi nomi del fashion design, ma anche al sistema dei distretti industriali e alle rinomate competenze artigianali del Bel Paese.
