The Louis Vuitton showroom in Tokyo flaunts a new facade. The building’s exterior has recently been dramatically refurbished by the celebrated Japanese architect Jun Aoki. Situated in Ginza, the building now shows off a geometric openwork outer skin, inspired both by the brand’s monogram and the traditional local Edo-Komon garment, as well as evoking Art Deco. This aluminium structure half disguises the underlying reinforced cement structure behind a playfully elegant camouflage which creates a perpetually iridescent effect: during the day its curved surfaces reflect the light in a thousand different ways, and by night a LED backlighting system transforms the building into a huge decorative lantern.
Lo showroom Louis Vuitton di Tokyo cambia vestito. La pelle dell’edificio è stata infatti recentemente riprogettata dal celebre architetto giapponese Jun Aoki. Posto nel distretto di Ginza, oggi l’edificio sfoggia un rivestimento a traforo geometrico che trae ispirazione dal famoso monogramma griffato, oltre che dal tradizionale abito locale Edo-Komon, e lancia un esplicito richiamo al periodo Art Decò. La struttura di alluminio, che cela il sottostante cemento armato in un gioco di elegante camouflage, è responsabile di un perpetuo effetto cangiante: le superfici ricurve riflettono infatti diversamente la luce del giorno, mentre durante la notte la retroilluminazione al LED trasforma l’immobile in una immensa lanterna ricamata.
An Australian artist based in Adelaide, specialising in camouflage aesthetics, Emma Hack has created a series of artworks called Wallpaper, in collaboration with the Florence Broadhurst wallpaper company. These works are a fascinating cross between painting, body painting and photography, where the artist masks the human body within backgrounds of Florence Broadhurst’s elaborate neo-Liberty wallpaper designs, creating strange narrative interplays in a mood of dreamlike realism. Emma’s activities involve her in both the international art world and the advertising industry: in 2012 her notoriety was hugely boosted by her painterly contribution to the music video for Gotye’s song “Somebody that I used to know”.

Emma, tanto impegnata sullo scenario artistico internazionale quanto attiva nel campo dell’advertising, nel 2012 ha fatto conoscere il suo nome grazie alla propria collaborazione nella realizzazione del video musicale di Gotye, “Somebody That I Used To Know”.
