Before winter descends menacingly on our days, now is the time to start dreaming and planning about next year’s holidays! If you possess an especially audacious traveler’s spirit, we suggest you keep yourself free between the last Monday in August and the first Monday in September, when you could join with tens of thousands of like-minded people in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada and become a part of the Burning Man event! This is no ordinary festival. It’s an uninterrupted rave and legendary psychedelic rite that takes place in Black Rock City, an entirely temporary city constructed differently and fantastically ex novo every year, a collective artistic carnival where the distinction between performer and spectator is suspended and everything is possible. To help you deal with the wait between now and next August and prepare yourself for the physical and psychological challenge of immersing yourself in the event, we recommend a few useful reads to keep on your bedside table in the coming months: : Art of Burning Man, a photo-book published by Taschen, with stunning images by the Canadian photographer NK Guy, and the ‘official commandments’ expressing the festival’s identity, which you can find on the website, outlining the spirit of the event, with its predisposition towards generosity, renunciation of comfort, environmental sustainability, unrestricted self-expression and creative giving and receiving.
Prima che l’inverno cali minaccioso sulle nostre giornate, è il momento opportuno per iniziare a programmare le prossime vacanze! Se siete viaggiatori dallo spirito particolarmente audace, vi consigliamo di tenervi liberi tra l’ultimo lunedì di agosto e il primo lunedì di settembre 2016: potreste volare insieme ad altre decine di migliaia di persone nel Black Rock Desert del Nevada per assistere allo straordinario spettacolo offerto dal Burning Man! Non un semplice festival, ma un rave ininterrotto, un rito psichedelico costruito in una città temporanea sempre diversa e sorprendente, un carnevale pop in cui le distinzioni di ruolo si annullano e tutto diventa concesso. The German publisher Seltmann+Söhne presents Dream Sequence, the new photobook created by the artist Sylwana Zybura (in art Madame Peripetie), a highly eclectic Polish photographer resident in London. The book unveils an extended series of extraordinary portraits which conjure up imaginary characters in a style somewhere between dreamlike surrealism and dark science fiction, where limbs are not infrequently substituted by floral compositions or mysteriously futuristic cyborg parts.
Hence the book’s motto, “If it can be imagined, it exists”… and these portraits not only exist, they’re also ‘real’ in the sense that they are created without any photo retouching, using solely the artist’s extraordinary technical skill.
The photographic material in this superb volume (which can be bought on its publisher’s website) has already won numerous prizes, including the Double Gold at the 2011 Paris PX3 and a special mention at the 2013 International Photography Awards in New York.

Il libro contiene una lunga serie di eccezionali ritratti che inventano personaggi immaginari, a cavallo tra un surrealismo onirico e una dark novel di fantascienza, le cui membra sono talvolta sostituite da composizioni floreali o da avvenieristiche e misteriose protesi. Non a caso il motto del libro recita “if it can be imagined, it exists”, ed infatti i ritratti sono “reali”, ovvero realizzati senza l’ausilio di alcun fotoritocco, grazie alla straordinaria capacità tecnica dell’artista. Il materiale fotografico che compone il volume (acquistabile sul sito dell’editore) si è già aggiudicato numerosi premi, tra i quali il Double Gold del PX3 2011 di Parigi ed una menzione speciale all’International Photography Awards 2013 di New York.
The remake of the Disney classic The Sleeping Beauty was announced a while ago. But it only emerged a few days ago that Lana Del Ray would be singing the main song in the soundtrack. This young singer – born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant – who broke into the big time with her album Born to die, is no newcomer to film soundtracks: she was also chosen by Baz Luhrmann as a key voice in his The Great Gatsby. In the trailer for Maleficent (this is the title of the remake, due to open in 2014, starring an icily cruel Angelina Jolie) Lana’s deep dark voice seems to emerge from the abysses of a truly timeless tale.
Il rifacimento del classico Disney La Bella Addormentata era stato annunciato da tempo. Ma solo da qualche giorno è stato reso noto che ad interpretare il brano guida della colonna sonora sarà Lana Del Rey. La giovanissima artista, alla nascita Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, la cui fama è esplosa con il successo dell’album Born to die, non è nuova nel mondo delle colonne sonore: la sua voce era infatti già stata scelta per accompagnare le immagini del Grande Gatsby di Baz Luhrmann. Nel trailer di Maleficent (questo il titolo della riedizione in uscita nel 2014, con protagonista un’algida e crudele Angelina Jolie) la profonda voce di Lana sembra davvero emergere dagli abissi di una storia senza tempo.
