During the recent New York Film Festival, the US documentary specialist Albert Maysles presented his latest film. Always attracted to oversize personalities in the American fame game, Maysles here tells the amazing story of 93 year-old Iris Apfel: interior designer, entrepreneur, White House decorator, but above all extravagant personality with a personal style all her own, subject of numerous museum retrospectives. Iris is a long and lively encounter with its subject, set in her exuberant apartment among the objects that reflect her indomitably outsized curiosity and vitality. The lady has stated that being filmed for all this time (shooting for the documentary began in 2010) has made her feel like a queen: now there’s an interesting court for us to explore!

 

E’ stata presentata durante lo scorso New York Film Festival l’ultima fatica del regista e documentarista americano Albert Maysles. Da sempre attratto dalle personalità che popolano lo star system statunitense, Maysles racconta ai propri spettatori l’avvincente storia della 93enne Iris Apfel: interior designer, imprenditrice, decoratrice per la Casa Bianca, ma soprattutto figura inimitabile, regina di uno stile eccentrico e personale e soggetto di diverse retrospettive museali. Iris, questo il titolo del documentario, è un lungo e serrato confronto con la protagonista, ambientato nel suo esuberante appartamento, tra gli oggetti che ne rispecchiano l’inesauribile prorompenza e la sempre curiosa vitalità. Secondo la Apfel, essere ripresa durante tutti questi anni (l’avventura documentaristica è iniziata nel 2010), è stato come essere una regina! E noi non vediamo l’ora di essere ammessi alla sua corte.
