Last year a spaceship styled with sophisticated Nordic simplicity landed among the green-hued mosses that cover the lunar landscape of Iceland: its name was ION, a hotel in the wilderness less than an hour’s drive from Reykjavik. Designed by the Minarc Studio in Santa Monica, the hotel was immediately awarded a Design Hotel certificate, also winning the Boutique prize in the sustainability category. These and other plaudits have undoubtedly been elicited by the daring architectonic choices made, the almost Spartan style of the luxurious bedrooms (45, of which 24 deluxe), the quality of the Silfra Restaurant with its delicious Nordic dishes, the Spa including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and – most uniquely – its setting in a magically dreamlike landscape.

 

Lo scorso anno un’astronave di eccezionale eleganza e nordico rigore è atterrata tra i muschi dalle mille sfumature di verde che rivestono il suolo simil-lunare d’Islanda: è ION, struttura d’accoglienza che sorge a meno di un’ora da Reykjavík. Progettato dallo studio Minarc di Santa Monica, l’hotel è stato subito insignito del riconoscimento di Design Hotel, aggiudicandosi il premio Boutique per la categoria sostenibilità. A contribuire al riconoscimento, oltre alle coraggiose scelte architettoniche, devono essere stati lo stile essenziale delle lussuose camere da letto (45 di cui 24 deluxe), la qualità del Silfra Restaurant che offre prelibate pietanze ispirate alla tradizione nordica, la SPA allestita negli spazi interni e nella piscina all’aperto e, indubbiamente, la magia di un paesaggio irreale e fantastico.
