Making Music Modern: Design for Eye and Ear is the title of an exhibition in New York’s MoMA – inaugurated in November 2014 and programmed to remain open until November 2015 – focused on the connections between music and design. Curated by Juliet Kinchin and Luke Baker, the show is made up entirely from items owned by the museum: from its archive store, an array of instruments and units for making or reproducing music has been selected, plus graphic items such as record covers, librettos and posters, along with architectonic projects for auditoriums and music rooms. The aim of the exhibition is to explore the influence of design on ways of making and listening to music throughout the 20th century, including works by figures spanning the whole period, from Charles Rennie Mackintosh, to Lilly Reich, Saul Bass, Jørn Utzon and Daniel Libeskind.
Making Music Modern: Design for Eye and Ear è il titolo della mostra in cartellone presso il MoMA di New York, inaugurata lo scorso novembre e destinata a durare fino al termine del prossimo anno, interamente dedicata al fil rouge che connette musica e design. L’esposizione, curata da Juliet Kinchin e Luke Baker, è stata interamente composta attingendo dal ricco patrimonio del museo, dai cui archivi sono stati selezionati strumenti ed apparecchi per l’ascolto della musica, elaborati grafici quali cover, libretti e manifesti, oltre a molti progetti architettonici per auditorium e sale d’ascolto. L’intento degli organizzatori è quello di far luce sull’influenza esercitata dal design sul nostro modo di fruire la musica lungo tutto l’arco del XX secolo, attraverso le opere di maestri antichi e recenti, come Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Lilly Reich, Saul Bass, Jørn Utzon e Daniel Libeskind.
New York’s MoMA will next year celebrate one of the most acclaimed and versatile artists of the last two decades: the ever-astonishing Björk. It will house an exhibition organised by Klaus Biesenbach, documenting twenty years of tireless multifaceted creativity through a mixture of material including sound, film, visuals, instruments, objects, costumes and performances. The overall theme of the exhibition’s narrative is conceived by Björk herself, in collaboration with the famous Icelandic writer Sjón Sigurdsson: a narration perpetually balancing on the borderline between biography and fiction, as is coherent for an artist with one foot always in surreal dimensions, and who has constantly astonished her public with stylistic transformations and unexpected collaborations (with directors, photographers, designers and stylists and visual artists) and her own heterodox talents. The portrait-cum-self-portrait is completed by an especially commissioned video work made in collaboration with director Andrew Thomas Huang and the participation of Autodesk: another sure triumph for the eclectic Queen of the North!
Il prossimo anno il MoMA di New York celebrerà una delle più acclamate e versatili artiste del nostro tempo: l’intramontabile Björk. La mostra, organizzata da Klaus Biesenbach, documenterà vent’anni di instancabile e poliedrica carriera attraverso la raccolta di documenti audio, film, visuals, strumenti, oggetti, costumi e performance. Il filo conduttore del racconto espositivo è stato ideato dalla stessa artista in collaborazione con il famoso scrittore islandese Sjón Sigurdsson: una narrazione che si mantiene in costante equilibrio lungo il confine che separa il biografico dal fittizio, come consono ad un’artista dai toni surreali, che ha saputo stupire il proprio pubblico con continui cambi di stile, inaspettate collaborazioni (con registi, fotografi, stilisti e artisti visivi) e molteplici abilità. A conclusione del racconto, un’inedita opera appositamente commissionata e realizzata insieme al regista Andrew Thomas Huang, con la partecipazione di Autodesk: un altro successo assicurato per l’eclettica regina del Nord!
Conceptions of space: recent acquisitions in contemporary architecture will remain on display in the exhibition rooms of MoMA until mid-October. This superb Museum offers visitors the opportunity to view new acquisitions for its architectural section in an exhibition curated by Pedro Gadanho, constructed around the conception of space as evolved from the beginning of the 20th century until today, in an era which Michel Foucault described as “the era of space”. On display are twenty major international projects (among the architects, Herzog & de Meuron, Álvaro Siza and Kengo Kuma, but also new names such as Pezo von Ellrichshausen, Ryue Nishizawa, Ensamble Studio, SO-IL and MOS Architects). Each one is presented to the public through scale models, drawings and designs, photos, videos and life-sized reconstructions… spaces, that tell the story of spaces, in space.

Il tempio dell’arte statunitense offre ai suoi visitatori l’opportunità di ammirare le più recenti acquisizioni della sezione architettura con una mostra, curata da Pedro Gadanho, completamente costruita attorno alla concezione dello spazio, così come essa si è costituita dall’inizio del XX secolo ad oggi, nell’era che Michel Foucault definì appunto “l’epoca dello spazio”.
